Siekierki Power Station

The CHP Siekerki is one of the largest thermal power stations in Poland. It is located in the district Siekierki the Mokotów district in the south of Warsaw, and is the second largest power plant in the Polish capital. In addition to current district heating is also produced by the combined heat and power principle. The cooling water comes from the nearby Vistula River, Siekerki does not have a cooling tower.

The first block of the power plant went on line in 1961. Today, the plant consists of several, partly complex interconnected individual plants. Overall, the power plant has an electrical output of 620 MW and a thermal capacity of 2080 MW.

In 2000 Vattenfall Heat Poland SA, a subsidiary of Swedish energy group Vattenfall began to acquire shares in Siekierki. Today the company include 99% of the power plant.
