Siemomysł, Duke of Pomerania

Zemuzil ( Siemomysł ) is the first name secured Duke of Pomerania.

Existence

Zemuzil for the year 1046 set forth in the applicable as reliable Annals of Niederaltaich. The fate of this ruler is not known.

The entry has the following background: King Henry III. regulated since he took office in 1039 the situation in the east of the empire. In 1046 he invited then some Slavic princes to his Merseburg one. Among the for the June 24, 1046 Mentioned is also a " Zemuzil Bomeraniorum " He is mentioned in a row with Duke Břetislav I of Bohemia and Casimir of Poland, which is known that he was already Duke of Poland at the time.

On June 29, 1046 Henry III met. in Meissen, a peace agreement with them.

Interpretation

As more evidence is lacking, can be any more detailed statements yet about life data and genealogical connections neither on the location of Zemuzils dominion. In particular, a possible genealogical connection to the later dynasties witnessed the gripping and the Samborid is not occupied.

Because on the one hand and Duke Kasimir is not explicitly referred to in the passage as dux ( duke ) and the other hand in a subsequent line of the duces ( dukes ) is mentioned, it is assumed that all three persons were dukes. From the entries in a row with the dukes of Bohemia and Poland is concluded that Zemuzil them well equal, so it was not less important part of Pomeranian princes according to their rank and power.

In Polish historiography Zemuzil is also known by the name " Siemomysł ".
