Sierra Pelona Mountains

P1P5

The Sierra Pelona Mountains are a mountain range in Los Angeles County and Kern County in Southern California. The 1937 km ² large mountain ranges from Interstate 5 in Gorman to the Antelope Valley Freeway at Vincent. The north - south distance is 57 km, from east to west 70 km. The Sierra Pelona Mountains bounded on the southwest to the northwest and from the Antelope Valley in the north and northeast by the Santa Clarita Valley, the San Emigdio Mountains to the south of the San Gabriel Mountains. The San Andreas Fault is located north of the mountains near the Elizabeth Lake. The Sierra Pelona Mountains are often erroneously included among the San Gabriel Mountains, but they are separated by the Soledad Canyon of the Sierra Pelona Mountains. In winter, the highest points are mostly covered with snow, while there is risk of forest fires in summer and autumn, as the hot, dry Santa Ana winds deprive the plants of moisture.
