Silent Stream of Godless Elegy

Silent Stream of Godless Elegy is a Czech folk metal band from Hranice na Moravě.

History

The band was founded in 1995 in the Moravian Hranice and moved with her debut album Iron quickly attracted the attention of Czech metal scene up. With the following album Behind the Shadows and the notoriety grew outside the Czech Republic. But the real breakthrough came in the band at the latest with their third album themes, which was in 2000 awarded the Grammy of the Czech Academy of Popular Music.

After several line- up changes during the years 2001 to 2004, the band with almost entirely new cast began working on another album. Finally, in 2005 appeared the new album Relic Dances, which was produced in collaboration with the famous Czech ethno musician Tomáš Kočko and the dulcimer ensemble Radošov the label Redblack. It combines traditional Moravian music with the harsh elements of Doom Metal. Critics were both impressed by the original concept as well as the successful implementation. In addition, this 2004 album was awarded the Grammy Czech (also known as Andel since 2001) in category Hard & Heavy.

The band has played since its inception on hundreds of concerts and festivals and has supported bands like Anathema, Cradle of Filth, Skyclad or The Gathering.

Style

Characteristic of the band's style is a mixture of hard Doom Metal and Moravian folk music. Both the traditional Moravian ballads as well as the doom metal are characterized by a gloomy and melancholy mood that is reflected in the music and in the lyrics. The song consists of alternating rough, male growling and clear female vocals. Typical of the band is also the frequent use of cello and violin, which usually play a supporting role.
