Silhouette Island

Silhouette is an island of the Seychelles archipelago in the near Mahe Island.

Silhouette is 20 km ² is the third largest island in the inner Seychelles and is located northwest of Mahé. About five kilometers north of the island is the small island of North Iceland. Unlike the geographic location suggesting the island belongs to the administrative district of La Digue and Inner Islands and is thus managed by the island of La Digue.

Geologic differ Silhouette and North Iceland from the other islands of the inner Seychelles. Both consist of about 63 million years old syenite volcanic origin, while the granite of Mahé, Praslin and is about 650 million years old.

Montplaisir, the highest mountain on the island is 752 meters high, 740 meters Dauban Mont. In two villages, about 150 inhabitants. Capital is La Passe on the northeast coast, since recently, the five- star resort is located at the northern end Labriz with 105 houses. The second village is Grand Barbe on the southwest coast.

On the island is a sanctuary for those in force until the early 1990s as extinct Seychelles giant tortoises Dipsochelys hololissa and Dipsochelys hololissa. Meanwhile, there are about 150 juveniles.
