Silver Apples

The Silver Apples were founded in 1967, a New York space-rock duo, which has become known primarily with electronic music is and to this day enjoys a cult status in some music scenes. The founding members were Dan Taylor ( drums) and Simeon Coxe, who operated a home-built synthesizer. The band renamed itself probably Morton Subotnick synthesizer composition Silver Apples of the Moon (1967).

Band History

The first album ( s / t) appeared in 1968 on Kapp Records, claiming ten weeks in the Top 100 list of Billboard magazine. The second album, Contact, was published in 1969. Having the record label had been adopted by the market, was a third album, which was recorded in 1970, not published. After the band split initially, until 1994 a German label (TRC ) is a bootleg CD of the first two LPs with poster is published. Since then, many musicians have played the world cover versions of the band or the Silver Apples sampled, also came tribute albums on the market. In 1997, the band played in the spring, an extensive tour of the United States in the summer around Europe and in the fall of a Japan tour. Also in 1997 the new CD, Beacon, which was recorded with Steve Albini appeared on the band's own label Whirlybird Records. Appeared in 1998 Decatur. Also in 1998 came Dan Taylor back to the band. The Garden was published, while it was rediscovered recordings for the long-lost third album (1970). Also in 1998 appeared Beacon remixed, remixes of recordings with Steve Albini.

After a car accident Simeon was seriously injured and fell for almost two years from. Despite partial paralysis appeared in 1999 under the name Simeon & The Alchemysts a CD along with the British band Alchemysts ( Vorontsov Records, Rubric Records). Other solo performances followed. 2005 Dan Taylor died in Kingston, New York, at age 56. Simeon Cox has reproduced as a solo performer all the sound of the drums Dan Taylor according to their own statements electronically.
