Silver Line (MBTA)

The trolleybus Boston is the trolleybus operation of the city of Boston in the United States. There runs the transport companies Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority ( MBTA ), which is responsible for urban bus transport, two lines partially electrically. It is all about two duo bus lines

In the city center, both sail in the Waterfront a three -kilometer-long common trunk route before settling at the stop Silver Line Way - split into two branches - where the upper line ends. First operation 1933-1963

Already on September 17, 1933 there was a much more substantial catenary bus in Boston until March 31, 1963. On April 11, 1936, the Boston net was swept extended beyond the city limits in the neighboring city of Cambridge, longer distances - even within Cambridge - followed. Moreover, there was in Dorchester (25 December 1948 to April 6, 1962 ) and in Arborway ( September 29, 1951 to October 1, 1958) two subnets that were not connected to the main network.

While the Boston lines were decommissioned 1958-1963, the trolleybus Cambridge remained as independent network today. It is also operated by the MBTA.

Planning

Medium term, the extension of the trolley tunnel route around 2.4 kilometers to the west is intended. This extension will lead to the Chinatown station on the Orange Line and beyond Boylston station on the Green Line. Already the existing tunnel infrastructure is designed for a future envisaged urban rail system, long term, the Green Line take on this task.

Rolling stock

The continuous low-floor trolleybus fleet of Boston consists of 32 joint duo - buses of the type AN460LF with numbers from 1101 to 1132. You were made in the years 2004 to 2006 by Neoplan USA, a supplier of electrical equipment functioned Škoda. The eight vehicles from 1125 to 1132 are located here owned by the airport operator Massachusetts Port Authority, Massport shortly.

In the opening phase, some solo vehicle of the type AN440LF - ETB by trolleybus Cambridge were also loaned to Boston, the last returned in May 2006 back to their main line. They also wore special gray-blue Silver Line paint, but could only serve the electrified section of South Station Silver Line Way. There was connection to buses.
