Silvius Strahimir Kranjčević ( born February 17, 1865 in Senj, † October 29, 1908 in Sarajevo) ( Silvinus Policarpus Anthony ) was Croatian writer and one of the most important poets of realism.

Life's work

Kranjčević was born in Senj under the mountain Nehaj. Although he attended the high school, but closed it due to his nature not with the Abitur. He then attended the Pontifical Collegium Germanico et Hungaricum in Rome to become a priest. He left it very quickly because he did not feel the inner call to the priesthood in itself. However, this very short stay left a lasting impression on his subsequent works. In Zagreb he attended a one-year teacher - training course. He then went to Bosnia - Herzegovina, there to practice, because he saw no future in Croatia. Mostar, Livno, Bijeljina and Sarajevo were his main life stages. There he earned not only his livelihood, but also matured in literary terms.

His first poem he published in Hrvatska vila ( Zavjet, 1883 ) before Kranjčević two months later was one or to Rome. The editorial team which was then headed by Eugen Kumičić was enthusiastic about the hitherto unknown artist. From Rome he sent two more poems to the Sloboda in Susac ( Pozdrav and Senj degree, 1884). When he returned from Rome, published in the Kranjčević Vijenac one of his most important works (NOC na Foru ), then Senj his first collection of poetry ( Bugarkinje, 1884). In just one year of his artistic work he had defined the full range of his artistic career and mapped out his artistic career. Home - man - the universe are the topics around which rotate his works. Following this clear demarcation issues he has not changed, however, has grown and matured in his artistic expression.
