Simon J. Schermerhorn

Simon Jacob Schermerhorn ( born September 25, 1827 in Rotterdam, New York, † July 21, 1901 ) was an American politician. Between 1893 and 1895 he represented the State of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Simon Jacob Schermerhorn visited community schools. Then he went to agricultural activities. In 1856 he was supervisor in the Town of Rotterdam. Schermerhorn served two terms as School Commissioner. He sat in 1862 and 1865 in the New York State Assembly. He was also director and trustee in local banks. Politically, he was a member of the Democratic Party.

In the congressional elections of 1892 for the 53rd Congress Schermerhorn in the 21st electoral district of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of John M. Wever on March 4, 1893. Since he gave up for reelection in 1894, he retired after the March 3, 1895 out of the Congress.

After his conference time he returned to his farm in Rotterdam, where he died on 21 July 1901. His body was then buried in the land View Cemetery.
