Simon Sze

Simon Min Sze (Chinese施 敏, Pinyin SHI Min, born March 21, 1936 in Nanjing, China) is a Chinese electrical engineer and author or co- author of several standard works in the field of semiconductor technology and semiconductor physics.

Life and work

Siman M. Sze graduated from the National Taiwan University in 1957 and received his Electrical Engineering Bachelor of Science ( B.Sc.). For a subsequent master's degree, he went to the USA, where he received in 1960 as a Master of Science at the University of Washington 's degree ( M.Sc.) in 1963 and a doctorate ( Ph.D.) from Stanford University.

Following Sze went to the Bell Telephone Laboratories and remained there until 1989 as a research assistant (English member of the technical staff ). During this time, Sze as a lecturer / visiting lecturer at various universities, worked, for example, at the National Chiao Tung University (1968-1969) or at the National Taiwan University ( 1974-1977 ). This he continued for a time at Bell Labs continued with the adoption of a Professor ( Distinguished Professor ) at the National Chiao Tung University ( NCTU, from 1990 to 2006).

Sze is known for his work in the field of semiconductor physics and technology, particularly metal - semiconductor contacts and metal-insulator- semiconductor field-effect transistors. This includes his participation in the discovery of the floating gate transistor by Dawon Kahng (1967). In addition, he is the author and editor of numerous books on the subject, including oft-quoted standard works such as Physics of Semiconductor Devices ( 1st edition, 1967), Semiconductor Devices: Physics and Technology and VLSI Technology. For these services he received, among others, the JJ Ebers Award of the IEEE (1991).
