Simone Mathieu

Simone Passemard Mathieu ( born January 31, 1908 in Neuilly -sur -Seine; † 7 January 1980 in Chatou Yvelines) was a French tennis player. The badminton player René Mathieu was her husband.

Biography

She was one of the most successful French female tennis players of all time; she could hold 11 years in a row in the top ten of world tennis rankings (1929 - 1939). In addition, she won 13 Grand Slam singles titles, including two each individual and mixed competition at the French Open ( after she had previously failed six times in an individual in the finals ). The most successful, however, it was in doubles. Alone at the French Open, she was 6 times victorious, and three doubles titles came at Wimbledon. A particular success she succeeded in doing in 1938, when she was able to win all three possible title of the French Open: Mixed, Single, and Double. 2006 was posthumously their induction into the International Tennis Hall of Fame.
