Sinyaya River

The Zilupe ( Latvian) or Sinyaya (Russian Синяя ) or Sinjucha (White Russian Сінюха ) is a river in the east of the Baltic.

The river rises in a swampy area east of Osweja lake in Belarus, near the Three Countries Corner with Latvia and Russia, flows north, forming for 12 km, the boundary between these two states. The next 59 km to the Zil- lake runs the Zilupe on Latvian territory, then forms for another 4 km, the border and then lead on Russian territory in the Welikaja. The width of the river is in Latvia 10-15 meters below Krasnogorodsk 30 meters.

  • The largest tributaries are Plusona (27 km), Istra (39 km) and Werscha.
  • Larger towns are on the banks Zilupe, Pogrow and Krasnogorodsk.
