Sir Francis Drake (TV series)

Sir Francis Drake ( The Pirate Queen ), is an English - adventure television series. She is inspired by the historical figure of Sir Francis Drake, a privateer and the first English circumnavigator.

Action

The Admiral Sir Francis Drake fights in the 16th century with his ship, the Golden Hinde, a pirate of Queen Elizabeth I on the high seas against mostly Spanish opponents. In addition to naval battles and sword fights is the series of intrigues at the royal court, is implicated in most of the Spanish Rogue Mendoza.

Broadcast

The series was first shown at the earlier English station ATV between November 12 1961 and 29 April 1962. The series consisted of 26 episodes, each of which was for 25 minutes. In Germany between February 2, 1967, and June 16, 1968 were aired thirteen episodes of the series.

It was a co-production of ABC and ATV, which was filmed at Elstree Studios and at historical sites in England. The historical research was conducted by E. Hayter Preston. Sir Francis Drake is one of the outstanding characters of the English shipping. The historical costumes of the series were developed by Beatrice Dawson.

The film music was composed by Ivor Slaney, which was played as background music only. Produced the series by Anthony Bushell, the film was directed by Clive Donner and Harry Booth, The dramaturgy is by Ian Stuart Black. The fight scenes were staged by British stuntman and actor Peter Diamond.

The series has since been released on DVD.
