Sir Isaac Goldsmid, 1st Baronet

Sir Isaac Lyon Goldsmid ( born January 13, 1778 in London, † April 27, 1859 ) was a British financier.

He was instrumental in the founding of the University of London in 1837. For his services he was appointed in 1841 the first Jewish baronet in England.

Isaac Goldsmid was a champion of Jewish emancipation in England and sat for the admission of Jews as candidates for the parliament. His eldest son, Francis Henry Goldsmid, later became Member of Parliament for the district of Reading.
