Siri von Essen

Sigrid Sofia Matilda Elisabet von Essen ( born August 17, 1850 in Porvoo, Finland, † April 21, 1912 ) was a Finland-Swedish actress.

Life

Her parents were the captain Karl Reinhold von Essen and Elisabet Charlotta In de Betou. Siri was educated at home by a French-speaking governess. When she was 13 years old, her family moved to Paris, where she spent several months in a convent school. After the family was forced to sell their property, they moved in 1868 to Stockholm. With her ​​first husband, Lieutenant Baron Carl Gustaf Wrangel af Sauss ( marriage 1872-1876 ) she received in 1873 her daughter Sigrid, but died in 1877. 1875 met Siri August Strindberg and a year later she and her husband decided to get a divorce, because Siri wanted to work as an actress, which would have been incompatible with the rank and social position of her husband.
