Sirnea

Sirnea ( Schirnen German, Hungarian Sirnea ) is a village in the district of Brasov ( Romania). It is part of the municipality Fundata.

Location

Sirnea is the southeast corner of Transylvania. It is located on the east side of the Piatra Craiului Mountains, about ten kilometers southwest of the castle Bran ( Bran ).

History

The region above the Bran Castle and below the Törzburger passport - an important Carpathian crossing - was probably settled at about the end of the 17th century. The place Sirnea was first documented in 1729. He was a Romanian village farmers and pastoralists.

After Sirnea had heard until the end of the First World War the Kingdom of Hungary, the Principality of Transylvania and to Austria - Hungary, it has since become a part of the State of Romania.

Population

Since the first observations the community is classified as predominantly inhabited by Romanians. In 1850, 853 inhabitants - all Romanians - registered. Since the peak in the year 1941 (1141 persons), the population decreased. 2002 349 residents were still counted.

Traffic

Sirnea is a few kilometers away from the mountain pass between Brasov and Pitesti, the European Route corresponds to 574. There are bus connections to Brasov.

Attractions

Sirnea is the starting point for hikes in the Piatra Craiului Mountains.
