The Sisu KB -46 is a 1968 made - terrain truck prototype of the Finnish vehicle manufacturer Suomen Autoteollisuus From (SAT), Karis, Finland. The payload of the three-axle vehicle with all-wheel drive is three tons in terrain. It was produced according to the specifications of the Finnish armed forces to pull heavy guns.

Specifications

The KB -46 is equipped with a 13.12 liter Leyland O.801 V8 diesel engine and the Sisu engine code is BY. The prototype was the first Sisu with this type of engine.

The chassis is constructed as a tubular frame. The fuel tank is integrated into the frame. The vehicle is equipped with the hydraulic trailer gear system " Sisu Nemo ".

The tires are Goodyear and the axles are equipped with a tire pressure control system. They have a very small volume of air, compared to other tires in similar applications.

The prototype had a rectangular cab that took place in the same form in the series production of the Sisu M Series use. An additional cabin was mounted between the cab and trailer.

The empty weight was 8,000 kg and the payload only 3000 kg in terrain. The largest weight of the normal trailer is 5,000-7,000 kg and the trailer with a driven axle 7,000-10,000 kg.

Properties

The prototype was a Tampella 122 K 60 cannon, equipped with hydraulic transmission, exhibited at the Finnish Agricultural Fair on the state of the Finnish Defence Forces. Neither the vehicle nor the cannon went into series production as the time for the development was too short and too many new technical devices exhibited for which no prior knowledge were available. The engine type was found to be technically unsuitable for KB - 46th

The KB -46 was never approved for the Finnish Defence Forces, but the prototype remained in the armed forces. The vehicle was several years in need of repair vehicle parked in the depot until it was repaired in the 1970s and made into a museum.
