Six moments musicaux (Schubert)

The Moments Musicaux, D. 780 (Op. 94), by Franz Schubert, six piano pieces that were written from 1823 to 1828 and appeared in the spring of 1828. The originally prescribed title " momen musicals " came from the publisher Leidesdorf. In addition to the Impromptus and the Wanderer Fantasy, they are among the most famous piano pieces Schubert.

The first piece ( Moderato ) shows in his motifs already hints of the later great Piano Sonata in A minor, D. 845, but remains within the framework of a typical character piece of the early Romantic period. The second ( Andantino ) developed the typical Schubert strong emotional outbursts. What is striking is the use of F # minor key as a death of romance that occurs in the dark and monotone B section and steps up to the end of the section in great drama. The aimless pendulum motif of the A section refers to the motif of the lost wanderer that characterizes a large part of Schubert's works. The third piece (Allegro Moderato ), also known as Air Russe, reminiscent of the many, mostly short dances that Schubert wrote especially for the piano. In contrast to the somber mood of the other pieces of the cycle there is more of an ease here. In the fourth Moment Musical ( Moderato ) are clear echoes of Bach clearly, with whose work has greatly Schubert mainly engaged in the development time. A two-part latent in the A- part, very similar to that in c- minor Prelude from the first volume of the Well -Tempered Clavier, is clearly visible. The fifth piece (Allegro vivace ) again shows a march-like character, full of drama. Monotony and lostness radiates from the sixth and last part of the cycle ( Allegretto ). Again, it is reminiscent of the Wanderer metaphor. Pendulum motives, that always in itself collapsing flat major, often directly in favor of the parallel F minor exudes a deep hopelessness and aimlessness of.

The pianistic requirements are rather low in technical terms. However, It asks for a delicate touch and empathy for the pieces. As in virtually all known piano works by Schubert and the Moments Musicaux impress not by virtuosity, but rather by a wide variety of emotional worlds.
