Skånelaholm Castle

The Skånelaholm castle is located in the Swedish municipality of Sigtuna in the province of Uppland.

The castle is a collection of rustic furniture and farming equipment is issued, which was donated by Herbert Rettig. One wing of the building magazine contains a carriage museum with old horse-drawn carriages. Skånelaholm is available during the summer months for the public. History

The plot in the church play Skånela am See Fysingen belonged to King Magnus I owned in the early 13th century and was sold in 1276 to the nuns of the convent Sko. Under Gustav I Vasa, the estate passed to the crown, and in 1641 it was purchased by Anders Gyldenklou. Gyldenklou operating an extensive trade in goods and land and also owned property in Södermanland, Västergötland and Bremen- Verden. Under him, the chateau was the appearance, as it is shown in the work Suecia antiqua et Hodierna and his descendants had the estate until 1735. The palace was probably completed in 1643. Restoration work of a chimney fragments were discovered that showed the coat of arms of the Knights house Gyldenklou and the year 1643, which led to the conclusion that it must be the year of completion.

1742 Trade Council Frans Jennings bought the property and converted it to a Familienfideikommiss. This was dissolved in 1918. 1929 Herbert Rettig bought the castle and gave it to the 1962 Royal Gelehrsamkeits, history and antiques Academy.

The building

The Skånelaholm castle consists of a main building whose main facade facing the country and of four detached wings. When it was inhabited led a channel to the castle, but today is a park between the castle and lake. The rectangular building with a steeply sloping gable roof has two main floors plus basement and attic spaces. In the basement is a dungeon, a relic from the time Gyldenklous.
