Districts

Skärholmen

The district is located about 13 km south-east of the city center. Prior to the comprehensive development which began in 1963, here were agricultural land. The residential areas were planned as a car-friendly area and so, among other things, a parking garage for 4,000 cars. Since these plots were never busy, took one part of the car park longer than the flea market and 2006, these areas were demolished.

The population consists of 89% Skärholmens citizens with migration background ( 2005).

Bredäng

Bredäng is the northernmost district of the municipality. Between the modern residential buildings, which were built starting in 1962, and the Mälaren is a broader Waldpartie. The development area of Bredäng and other south-eastern suburban areas were called in recent years as an example of negative urban development, as here occurred an increased segregation. Recent initiatives intend to counter this development.

Sätra

The district lies between Sätra Skärholmen and Bredäng and is exactly how these influenced by residential buildings of the 1960s. The shopping center at the Sätra subway station was the first in Sweden, which was completely covered - an inspiration that was taken over from the U.S..

Vårberg

Vårberg is the southernmost district in the municipality. It was incorporated on January 1, 1963 the Stockholm urban area.
