Skeets McDonald ( born October 1, 1915 in Greenway, Arkansas as Enos William McDonald, † March 31, 1968 ) was an American country singer who with Do not Let the Stars Get in Your Eyes 1952 had his biggest hit.

Life

Skeets McDonald comes from a poor family cotton pickers. As a teenager, he followed his older brother to Michigan, had where after the settlement of numerous workers developed from the southern states a small country scene. He put together his own band, the hoofed it through the clubs and radio stations around Detroit. After his military service, which he spent mostly overseas during the 2nd World War, he returned to Michigan.

Career

After recording a couple of singles in the small label Fortune Records ( most famously The Tattooed Lady), he moved in 1950 to Los Angeles. Here he was engaged for the TV show Hometown Jamboree and performed in several feature films. With Capitol Records, he completed a recording contract. Appeared in 1952, the single Do not Let the Stars Get in Your Eyes, which reached number one on the country charts and became his biggest success. The next releases reached middle chart positions. Musically, he has developed from a Honky Tonk mid -1950s to rockabilly. Worth mentioning here include the title Heartbreakin 'Mama and You Oughta See Grandma Rock recorded with Eddie Cochran on guitar. More titles have included 're There and Fort Worth Jailhouse from the year 1958. Meanwhile Despite missing the charts McDonalds was still more or less represented in the California country music scene, which is probably not last and also to his performances in the Town Hall Party was in Tex Ritter Ranch Party.

1959 McDonald moved to Columbia Records, with Call Me Mr. Brown, where he was able to achieve a top 10 hit in 1963. Increasingly, he left the California scene and stayed for recordings in Nashville. The influences of the pop-oriented Nashville sound, he resisted as far as possible. Soon, his music was considered old-fashioned, and the sales of his plates were after. On March 31, 1968 Skeeets McDonald died of a heart attack at the age of 52 years.
