Skibotn (Finnish: Markkina or Yykeänperä ) is a village with about 700 inhabitants in the municipality Storfjorden, located on the southeastern shore of the Lyngen Fjord in the Northern Norwegian county of Troms.

Population

The residents of Skibotn are for the most part either descendants of Kvener and seeds or immigrants from South and Central Norway and their descendants.

The eminent writer Sami Nils- Aslak Valkeapää spent much of his life in Skibotn.

Climate

Skibotn is known for its dry Mesoklima often with clear skies and the calcareous pine forests with rare orchids. Because of the climate, there is an astrophysical observatory, which is located in Skibotn.
