Skierki, Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship

Skierki ( German Wehlack ) is a village in Poland in the Warmia - Mazury. It belongs to the municipality Barciany ( baleen ) in the powiat Kętrzyński ( Rastenburg ).

Geography

Skierki is located in north-eastern Poland, approximately 20 kilometers south of the border with Russia's Kaliningrad Oblast.

History

When exactly was the Skierki today, is not known. Presumably were village and Good Wehlack in 14-15. Century created. 1847 a Dutch windmill was built in the village, the first of its kind in Mazury. 1785, the village had 16 houses together with the Vorwerk, 1817 there were 14 in the 19th and 20th century the village belonged to the Count of Schwerin. These leased the land from the 1890s to Georg Freiherr von der Goltz. In 1900 the mansion was built. 1929 Good comprising Wehlack an area of ​​600 hectares. 1945, at the end of the Second World War, the Red Army marched into the area. As a result of the war was Wehlack Skierki as part of the People's Republic of Poland. The village is located on the Skierki Province Road 591 ( droga wojewódzka 591 ). This leads to the south and to the north by Kętrzyn Barciany on the border with the Kaliningrad Oblast. A border crossing is not here. To the east, a side road leads to Staniszewo.

The place does not have its own rail connection. The nearest train station is seven kilometers south in Kętrzyn where there are direct connections to Olsztyn and Poznan.

The nearest international airport is Kaliningrad, which is about 100 kilometers northwest located on Russian territory. The nearest international airport on Polish territory is located about 190 kilometers west of Lech Walesa Airport, Gdansk.
