Skjold (ship)

The Skjold (or Skiold ) was a Danish full-rigged ship and was built in 1839 in Sønderborg especially for emigrants transport. She had a size of 460 tons. Their owner was C. Petersen from Sønderborg. Captain Hans Christian Claussen led the ship on his great voyages to Adelaide in 1841 and Nelson ( New Zealand) 1844.

  • Altona to Port Adelaide - July 3, 1841 to 28 October 1841 Prussian emigrants and Pastor Gotthard Fritzsche, who later settled near Adelaide and the towns of Lobethal in the Adelaide Hills and Bethany in the Barossa Valley founded. 41 of the original 214 passengers did not survive the crossing.
  • Port Adelaide to Batavia - departure on November 22, 1841
  • Hamburg to Nelson ( New Zealand) - April 21, 1844 to September 1, 1844 German emigrants.
