Lobethal, South Australia

Lobethal is a town in South Australia ( South Australia) with 1836 inhabitants. It belongs to the capital, Adelaide, and is about 33 km from the city center, in the administrative area of ​​Adelaide Hills Council.

History

The place was founded by 18 Prussian Lutheran emigrants families in the Adelaide Hills, 17 km from Hahndorf, in 1841. These were a few months before coming to the emigrant ship Skjold, of Hamburg, arrived on October 28, 1841 at the Port of Adelaide. Some of the emigrants founded Bethany in the Barossa Valley.

On May 4, 1842 held Pastor Gotthard Daniel Fritzsche, the group's leader, a worship service outdoors from. He quoted from the Bible ( Book II Chronicles, Chapter 20, Verse 26) On the fourth day they assembled themselves in Lobethal; for there they blessed the Lord.

1917, the village name was changed by an Act in Tweedvale to protest against the role of Germany in the First World War. 1935 again the old name Lobethal has been introduced.

In the 1930s an attempt was made to establish a motorsport event, the Grand Prix of Australia, but it soon lost its importance.

Some of the buildings around the church still exists today. Including one in which established the first Lutheran theological seminary. The buildings are now used as an archive and a museum; there is also the Bible of 1641, which once belonged to Pastor Fritzsche issued ( Lutheran Church Complex).

A special tradition is the Lobethal Light ( The Lights of Lobethal ), a Christmas lights game festival, which attracts many visitors each year.

Another museum is in the old textile factory. There, a clothing exhibition can be visited.
