Skoda Yeti (2009-2013)

The Škoda Yeti is a compact SUV, the Skoda brand. The production version was unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show in spring 2009 and is available since August of the same year.

The model is manufactured in Kvasiny.

Model history

The Yeti is available with front-wheel drive or four-wheel drive.

The off-road drivetrain comes from the Škoda Octavia II 4 × 4 in conjunction with a Haldex multi-plate clutch.

As engines are three petrol engines with 1.2, 1.4 and 1.8 liters of displacement (77 kW/105 hp, 90 kW/122 hp and 118 kW/160 hp) and three 2.0 -liter diesel (81 kW / 110 hp, 103 kW/140 hp and 125 kW/170 hp) in the offer. Here, the 1.2-liter and 1.4-liter gasoline engine will be offered exclusively without all-wheel drive. For the 1.2 - liter petrol, 1.4 -liter gasoline and 1.8 -liter gasoline engine and the 2.0 - liter diesel with 140 hp or 170 hp is available as an option a DSG gearbox. A fuel-saving version with 1.6 - liter diesel engine and start-stop system and braking energy recovery is offered as a Green Line equipment. In addition, a low rolling resistance tires are used with a smaller wheel diameter to reduce the ground clearance, thereby improving air resistance.

2009, the SUV was the car of the year in the Czech Republic.

The interior is stylistically inspired by the Škoda Superb. The rear seat concept was taken from the Škoda Roomster.

Facelift

In autumn 2013 the Yeti a mainly visual revision was given. In addition, a variant is now also without the typical SUV features such as underrun protection, side moldings and sills in the program.

The front is more horizontal equipped with two versions with a distinctive grille and redesigned headlights. Another new feature is now available bi -xenon headlamps with integrated LED daytime running lights. The front fog lights are now rectangular and located below the front bumpers.

The tail was restructured: a new form of tailgate with rear lights in the C- design contains two triangular elements as well as the new brand logo.

Security

In the Euro NCAP crash test, the Yeti in 2009 is rated five out of five stars. In the evaluation of occupant safety from adults, the tested vehicle reached 92 % and with the occupant safety of children 78% of the maximum possible score. In the area of ​​pedestrian protection, the vehicle received 46 % of the points, the standard safety equipment is rated 71 % of the possible score.

The Yeti won an " Auto, Motor und Sport" comparison test of diesel models against the Toyota RAV4 and BMW X1. Jeremy Clarkson called the Yeti in the television program Top Gear as the "best car in the world ".
