SÅ‚awomir Skrzypek

Sławomir Skrzypek ( born May 10, 1963 in Katowice, † 10 April 2010 Smolensk, Russia) was a Polish economist and since 11 January 2007 to his death president of the Polish central bank ( National Bank of Poland ).

Life

During the war law in Poland Skrzypek was imprisoned as a member of the opposition for half a year. In 1989 he received his engineering degree from Politechnika Śląska in Gliwice. 1993-1997 Sławomir Skrzypek worked in the Supreme Chamber of Control ( Najwyższa Izba Kontroli ). There included the financial control of the authorities and the banking sector to his duties. In 1995 he received an MBA from the University of Wisconsin - La Crosse. In the years 1997-2000 Sławomir Skrzypek Deputy Chairman of Narodowy Fundusz Ochrony Środowiska i was Gospodarki Wodnej (National Association for the protection of the environment and water management). May 2000 till June 2001, he was a member of a Council for the PZU Życie SA ( General Life Insurance Ltd. ). From the SzkoĹ Główna Handlowa ( SGH ), he received a diploma in 2001. In May 2001 he became a member of the Board of the Polish railway company PKP. In 2002 he became Deputy Mayor of Warsaw, Lech Kaczyński, and remained so until his election as president of Poland in 2005. Effect from December 20, 2005 Skrzypek was then Vice President, acting from September 29, 2006 Managing Director of Bank PKO BP. President of PKO BP could not be Skrzypek, because he did not have the necessary legal experience. At the same time, he served as Chairman of the Board in 2006, the Bank Pocztowy (Postbank ) and operates from May 2006, the TVP SA. In January 2007, he succeeded Leszek Balcerowicz as chairman of the National Bank of Poland. The opposition doubted his competence for the post and accused him only as a favorite Kaczyńskis to have received the item.

On April 10, 2010 Skrzypek belonged to a Polish delegation headed by President Lech Kaczyński, who was to travel on the occasion of the seventieth anniversary of the Katyn massacre to the memorial to Russia. However, in a plane crash of the delegation near the military airfield Smolensk - North he came together with other high-ranking representatives of Poland died. Posthumously the Order of Polonia Restituta (Order Odrodzenia Polski ) he was awarded a Commander with Star.

Sławomir Skrzypek was married and had three children.
