Slim smooth dogfish ( Gollum attenuatus )

The Lean dogfish ( Gollum attenuatus ) is a species of the genus Gollum within the existing of only three species family Pseudotriakidae.

Features

The slender smooth-hound has a maximum body length of about 110 centimeters. It is a very slender shark with a single gray body color and long tail. The eyes are long oval and large, they have a nictitating membrane. The snout is long and pointed. The animal has small nasal valves below the nostrils and short Labialfurchen. The injection hole is formed very small. In each jaw there are numerous small teeth (about 120 rows of teeth per jaw half).

Dissemination

The slender smooth-hound is common in the deep sea area off the coasts around New Zealand. He lives off of the shelf area on the continental slopes and in the area of submarine mountains at depths 130-730 meters, especially between 300 and 600 meters depth.

Way of life

The slender smooth-hound is viviparous ( Ovoviviparie ), where the young are fed on eggs ( Oophagie ). Only two young are born per litter. The sharks feed probably of teleosts, other small sharks, rays and invertebrates.

Endangering

The International Union for Conservation of Nature ( IUCN) classifies this as a shark not endangered ( "Least Concern" ). About the population size are no data and the shark is occasionally caught as bycatch in the soil and trawling, but the largest part of its range is below the fishing depth, which is assumed to be low fishing pressure on the population.
