Slik

Slik were a Scottish musical group which was founded in 1970 in Glasgow under the name of Salvation.

Band History

For a long time came Midge Ure, Jim McGinley, Kenny Hyslop and Billy McIsaac on in the British province without a record company was interested in them. The compilation film That's Entertainment! led in 1975 to an image change. The smooth atmosphere of Hollywood revue films they then decided to rename it in Slik and zuzulegen an appropriate outfit. Styled as a U.S. college students of the late 1950s and early 1960s with short hair, baseball shirts and sneakers, they launched a short successful career.

The British producer Bill Martin and Phil Coulter, who had less than a year previously led the Bay City Rollers on track, took Slik under contract and produced with them in late 1975, the single Forever and Ever. In a short time the song reached number one in the UK charts. The mid -1970s for members of a pop group unusual appearance with short hair created quite a stir.

A sold-out concert at Glasgow's Apollo Theatre triggered a mass hysteria. The teenage Press Slik celebrated as the new heroes of pop music and prophesied a great future for them. The New Musical Express, Britain's leading music magazine, wrote about Slik: " This group is in the teen market very difficult to clean up ." With her outfit and her music, which centered on a sacred organ, they offered a lot of variety in comparison to other teen bands. However, their predicted by the music press future lasted barely a year. With more hits as Requiem, The Kid 's a Punk, Do not Take Your Love Away and Dancerama they had only moderate success. After the release of the album of the same name to Slik disbanded in 1977. Up to Midge Ure members of the group were not more musical in appearance. After brief stint playing with Rich Kids and Thin Lizzy Ure In 1978, along with Steve Strange, the project Visage. Two years later he joined the New Wave band Ultravox, replacing John Foxx as singer, guitarist and songwriter.
