The Slovenský Cuvac is one of the FCI (No. 142, Gr. 1 sec 1) recognized breed of dog from Slovakia.

Origin and History

The Slovenský Cuvac, actually Slovenský Cuvac belongs to the white-haired guard dogs of Europe. The name was derived from the Slovak word Cuvat ( " listen " for some archaic or " guard, be careful " ) and points to the vigilance of these dogs.

The Slovensky Cuvac is based in Slovakia. According to the studbook, the breed started with dogs from the Tatra mountains. The first litter records date from 1929. The studbook was founded in 1933, created by Anton Hruza, a professor at the Veterinary University in Brno.

Description

The Slovensky Cuvac is a large white mountain shepherd dog that has a strong bone structure and an even temperament. His hair color is pure white, a yellowish approach to ear is permitted but not desirable. The long-haired coat is slightly wavy, but not curly and not parted on the back. Slovensky Cuvac must not be bathed, cut or trimmed. The hair is largely self -cleaning, from time to brush, especially in the time of moulting is sufficient.
