Slovak euro coins

The Slovak euro coins are brought from Slovakia into circulation coins of the European currency Euro.

On 25 November 2005, Slovakia joined the European Exchange Rate Mechanism II at a central rate of 1 EUR = 38.4550 SKK at. Mid-March 2007, the central rate was lowered to 1 EUR = 35.4424 SKK. A new reduction on 1 EUR = 30,1260 SKK was held on 29 May 2008. The reason was the continuous rise of the Slovak crown. On April 5, 2008 it was announced that Slovakia will apply for membership of the euro area on 1 January 2009. The application for membership was then examined by the European Commission. On 7 May 2008, the EU Commission and the European Central Bank announced that Slovakia to adopt the euro on 1 January 2009. This decision was officially confirmed on 8 July 2008 in Brussels by the EU finance Ministers. On 1 January 2009, the euro was at an exchange rate of 1 EUR = 30.1260 SKK officially legal tender in Slovakia.

Circulation coins

For the design of the new coins A public competition was held. Details on this contest can be found on the website of the National Bank of Slovakia. He returned in December 2005 following result:

  • The 1 -, 2 - and 5- cent coins, the mountain is Kriváň in the High Tatras, designed by Drahomír Zobek to see
  • The design of the 10 -, 20 - and 50-cent coins were designed by Ján Cernaj and Pavel Károly. On them the Bratislava Castle is shown.
  • The Slovak coat of arms, the double cross on three hills, designed by Ivan Řehák is, on the 1 - and 2- euro coins look.
