The company was founded in 1918 by José Soares da Costa in Porto with ten workers. Ninety years after its inception, Soares da Costa is dedicated in addition to the construction of a number of related areas, such as concessions, industrial and real estate. Presence in international markets such as the United States and Angola, is one of the hallmarks of the group. The group currently employs approximately 5000 employees. The company is listed on the Lisbon Stock Exchange in Euro Next.

The end came as a family with the realignment as a public company in 1968, in 1986 the transition was followed by the stock market of Lisbon and Porto. Today, Grupo Soares da Costa is one of the global top 100 companies in the construction industry. Large construction projects in recent years have been the Macau International Airport or the Light Rail System Metro of Porto.

Soares da Costa makes approximately 53 percent of its sales abroad, maintains a permanent presence in Florida ( USA), Angola, Mozambique, Romania, Israel and Ireland, as well as occasional activities in several other countries. Mainstay of Soares da Costa is currently the booming construction sector in Angola, followed by Mozambique. In future, however, the company wants with investments to balance the expected decline in the Portuguese Construction of smaller construction companies in Brazil.

Strong technical skills and orientation to international markets, as well as highly qualified staff, were key to the success of the group.
