Society of Mary (Marianists)

The Catholic Congregation of the Society of Mary ( Marianists, religious symbol: SM) was founded in 1817. Priests and lay brothers live equally in their next to each other and work as brothers in school education, pastoral care and various professions. It was founded by the late French priest William Joseph Chaminade, who also called an eponymous sister community to life. The Marianists wear a religious habit, but the ring of loyalty and a special Ansteckkreuz as a visible sign of belonging.

The 1444 members of the community live and work in 34 countries around the world (Argentina, Bangladesh, Belgium, Brazil, Chile, Germany, Ecuador, Ivory Coast, Great Britain, France, Guatemala, India, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Kenya, Colombia, Congo, Korea, Cuba, Lithuania, Malawi, Mexico, Austria, Peru, Poland, Zambia, Switzerland, Spain, Togo, Czech Republic, Tunisia and the USA).

The first Marianists were launched in 1857 to Graz. Today, the Marianists are represented in the following locations:
