SOCOM (series)

SOCOM is a computer game series of the Japanese console manufacturer and publisher Sony Computer Entertainment, which publishes the brand for its PlayStation family of products.

Description

All offshoot of the SOCOM series are tactical shooter in real time that are played from a third-person perspective. The title derives from the United States Special Operations Command ( SOCOM ), an overarching command means all military special units of the United States. In the game, the player takes command of a task force of the United States Navy SEALs, with which he scattered all over the world perform various secret missions, for example in the fight against terrorists and rebel forces.

The first title SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs was designed by the U.S. development studio Zipper Interactive and published in 2002 for the PlayStation 2. 2006 Zipper was acquired by Sony. From 2002 until its closure by the parent company in 2012, the company developed six other series spin-off for consoles PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Portable. Three more titles between 2007 and 2010 were prepared by the independent Canadian developer Slant Six Games Studio.
