Sodium nitride is unstable inorganic chemical compound of sodium from the group of nitrides.
Production and representation
Sodium nitride can be obtained by thermal decomposition of sodium azide or sodium azide may react with sodium.
Also possible is the production by the reaction of sodium with nitrogen in an electric discharge.
A more recent synthesis describes the preparation in a vacuum chamber, is applied in the sodium atomic nitrogen to a cooled sapphire substrate, and then warmed to room temperature.
Properties
Sodium nitrite is a dark blue solid. He is extremely unstable and decomposes with slight warming in its elements. Its crystal structure can be assigned to the anti- rhenium ( VI) oxide - type and surprised by an extremely low space filling.
