Sodoku

The rat bite fever ( sodoku Syn ) is a world rarely occurring, but especially frequent in Japan infectious disease of humans. The data to transmit the pathogen ( Spirillum minus and Streptobacillus moniliformes ) by bites of rats, mice, squirrels and rodent -eating pets. This is therefore a zoonosis. After an incubation period of 1-22 days, sometimes only after two months, usually results in a deep dark red rash on the wound. Fever of 4-5 days alternate with afebrile intervals. Lymphangitis and swelling of lymph nodes, liver and spleen may be concomitants. The rat bite fever usually heals within a few weeks or months off by itself, but leads to the view of some authors untreated in 5-10 % of cases, death.

As a therapy, a combination of the antibiotics penicillin G is recommended with an aminoglycoside.
