Sofron Stefan Mudry

Sofron Stefan Mudry, OSBM ( born November 27, 1923 in Zolocziw ) is retired Bishop of Ivano- Frankivsk.

Life

Sofron Stefan Mudry joined the Congregation of the Basilian and the Apostolic Visitor of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church in Western Europe and South America, Ivan Bucko, ordained him a priest on 25 December 1958. From 1974-1994 he was rector of the Pontifical Ukrainian College in Rome.

On November 24, 1995, he was elected by the Holy Synod on the Coadjutor Bishop of Ivano- Frankivsk. Pope John Paul II confirmed the election on 2 March of the next year. The Secretary of the Congregation for the Oriental Churches Miroslav Stefan Marusyn consecrated him on 12 May of the same year the bishop; Co-consecrators were Sulyk Stephen, archbishop of Philadelphia, and Sofron Dmyterko OSBM, Auxiliary Bishop of Ivano- Frankivsk.

After the retirement Sofron Dmyterko he followed on 7 November 1997 after him as Bishop of Ivano- Frankivsk. On 2 June 2005, Pope Benedict XVI. its age-related resignation.
