Soledad Puértolas

Soledad Puértolas Villanueva ( born November 3, 1947 in Zaragoza ) is a Spanish writer.

Life

Soledad Puértolas grew up in Zaragoza and moved to Madrid, where she began studying political science. However, they had to cancel it due to political problems. Subsequently, she studied at the Escuela de la Iglesia Journalism and was from 1968 to 1970 editor of the magazine " España Económica ". At the same time, she was forced by a lawsuit to stop her studies in political science.

Soledad married at the age of 21 years and moved with her ​​husband to Trondheim in Norway. After returning to Spain, her husband got a scholarship and both moved to Santa Barbara in California. There she earned a M. A. (Master of Arts) in the Spanish and Portuguese language and literature at the University of California.

In 1979 she returned to Madrid, and devoted himself to writing. At the same time she was a consultant of the Ministry of Culture, under the then Culture Minister Javier Solana. Her responsibilities included the coordination of the global spread of the Spanish language.

Works

In Spain, five novels and two collections of stories have been published so far from her. The novel " There remains the Night " ( " la noche Queda ", Barcelona 1989), for which she was awarded one of highest endowed literary prizes, the Premio Planeta, is her first book published in German translation.

Awards

Soledad Puértolas won the 1979 SESAMO Price with her ​​work " El bandido doblemente armado " ( The double- armed bandit ), in 1989 the Planeta prize with the work " Queda la noche " ( It is the night) and 1993 Anagrama the price with their essay " La vida oculta " ( life in secret ). Since November 2010 she is a member of the Real Academia Española.
