Solid was released on November 9, 1984 worldwide and became an international success. While it was in the top ten in many European countries, the single reached number 12 in the U.S. and was the only Top 20 hit, which succeeded Ashford & Simpson in the U.S.. In New Zealand, the song reached # 1 on the charts.

At the beginning of the music video is rising Valerie Simpson out of a cab. While walking, it starts to rain and she flees with a newspaper covered in a tunnel. After she sat down on a bench, also Nickolas Ashford joins added. After several people join them to sing all together.
