The company was founded on 5 May 1994 of Rafiq al -Hariri, the former Prime Minister of Lebanon. The name is a pseudonym for Société pour le développement et la libanaise reconstruction de Beyrouth, ( Society for the Development and Reconstruction of Beirut ). Through an agreement with the government Solidere enjoys special powers and can act to a limited extent as the supervisory authority, and even carry out expropriations. Projects

Solidere is the main force for the reconstruction of Beirut after the Lebanese civil war. The main function of Solidere is the supervision and implementation of the initiated by the government reconstruction plan. This includes the financing and development of infrastructure, new construction and rehabilitation of war-damaged structures, urban design and management of real estate. Important individual projects were the Beirut Souks, a 100,000 square meter shopping mall, the Hadiqat As- Samah (Garden of Forgiveness ), the Platinum Tower, the Marina Towers and the Marina Bay Zaitunay at the Saint George Bay.
