Solomon Newton Pettis

Solomon Newton Pettis ( born October 10, 1827 in Lenox, Ohio, † September 18, 1900 in Meadville, Pennsylvania ) was an American politician. In the years 1868 and 1869 he represented the State of Pennsylvania in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Solomon Pettis attended preparatory schools. After a subsequent law degree in 1848 and its recent approval as a lawyer, he started in Meadville to work in this profession. In the years 1861 and 1862 he was an Associate Justice in the Colorado Territory. Then he returned to Meadville to continue his profession. Politically, he was a member of the Republican Party.

After the death of Mr Darwin Abel Finney Pettis was at the due election for the 20 seats of Pennsylvania as his successor in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he took up his new mandate on December 7, 1868. Since he has not been confirmed at the regular congressional elections of 1868, he could only finish the current term in Congress until March 3, 1869.

After the end of his time in the U.S. House of Representatives Pettis again practiced as an attorney in Meadville. Between June and October 1879, he was an American ambassador in Bolivia. Then he returned to Meadville, where he worked as a lawyer until his death on 18 September 1900. There he was also buried.
