Somali sheep

The Somaliaschaf (also Somali sheep or Berbera Blackhead called ) is a domestic breed of sheep from East Africa. It is a hornless sheep hair, one of the fat tail sheep and is adapted to arid conditions. His head is demarcated black and clear color from bright rest of the body.

The fat-tailed sheep originate from the steppes of Asia. In Africa, they are probably thousands of years present when exactly they got there, however, is not known. The Somaliaschaf is traditionally held by the Somali of the Horn of Africa and other ethnic groups in African drylands.

From the end of the 19th century the breed Blackhead Persian was bred in South Africa from the Somaliaschaf.

Since the 1950s Somaliaschafe are also held in some European zoos.
