Somebody to Love is a rock song by the folk-rock band The Great Society, Grace Slick 's band, which later became singer of Jefferson Airplane. It was published in 1966 Autumn Records. Shortly thereafter, he was taken for the band Jefferson Airplane and released on 1 April 1967 as the first single from the album Surrealistic Pillow. The magazine Rolling Stone took the version of Jefferson Airplane at number 279 on its 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.

The piece was written by the guitarist of The Great Society, Darby Slick. The single then became little more than local attention in San Francisco and the Bay Area.

The version of Jefferson Airplane

Grace Slick brought the song in the sessions of Jefferson Airplane with a, together with its own composition White Rabbit. The single reached number 5 on the Billboard Hot 100 and thus became the first and biggest success of the band.

The lyrics are held in the second person, with slight variations, is asked: "? Do not you need somebody to love / Would not you love somebody to love ... " Darby Slick according to which he deals with "doubt and disillusionment ", " doubt and disillusionment ."
