Somnolence referred to in medicine a level of quantitative disturbance of consciousness. The term quantitative consciousness disorder refers to the degree of alertness (vigilance ). In contrast, qualitative disturbance of consciousness referred to as states of consciousness and narrowing of consciousness shift / expand.

Somnolence is a dizziness with abnormal sleepiness as a lighter form of consciousness with preserved responsiveness and Erweckbarkeit. It is usually not complete memory loss ( amnesia). Somnolence and hypnosis
