Sompa ( German Sompäh ) is a village (Estonian küla ) in the rural community Jõhvi ( Jõhvi vald ). It is located in Ida -Viru county (East Wierland ) in northeastern Estonia.

Description and History

The village has 83 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2012).

The village Aue on the present territory Sompas was first mentioned in the 13th century. The place Sompa is first detected in the year 1420.

The village was established in its current boundaries in 1977 by merging the small villages Sompa - Aruserva, Sompa - Sininõmme, Sompa - Vanaküla ( Aue ) and Sompa Asundus ( Sompa - Jaamaküla ).

Through the town performs the railway line that connects Tallinn to the Russian capital Saint Petersburg.

Manor of Sompa

The manor Sompa is recorded from 1496. This historic manor house was destroyed in the interwar period.
