The Sơn La Dam is an under construction dam with a hydroelectric power plant on the Black River ( Sông Da ) in Vietnam. The planned construction period lasts from 2005 to 2012, which was begun in 2010 with the impoundment and operation.

The building is in the province of Sơn La, about 340 km north-west of Hanoi and upstream of the existing Hoa Binh hydropower plant. The shut-off is a RCC ( RCC ) gravity dam and 138 m high. It is concreted since 2008 and is the tallest dam construction in Vietnam.

The hydroelectric power plant works with six Francis turbines of 400 MW capacity, 2,400 MW in together. It is expected that MWh 9,000,000 can be produced.

For the lake about 91,000 people need to be resettled.
