Sonam Tsemo

Sonam Tsemo (* 1142 in Sakya, † 1182 ) is one of the "Five Venerable Masters", which are regarded as the actual founder of the Sakya tradition of Tibetan Buddhism. These five champions include not only Sonam Tsemo, Sachen Kunga Nyingpo, dragpa Gyeltshen, Sakya Pandita Kunga Gyeltshen and Drongon Chögyel Phagpa. Sonam Tsemo was the son of Sachen Kunga Nyingpo who created the doctrine of the Sakya tradition. He was a pupil of his father, and received all the teachings of the Sakya school of him transmitted. He is said to have fully realized at a young age. Later he traveled to Central Tibet and learned for many years with the masters of the old Kadam school, especially logic and " Highest Transcendent Wisdom " ( Prajnaparamita ). After his return he devoted himself to his duties as 4.Sakya Thridzin ( throne holder of the Sakya ), as well as meditation and teaching.
