Sonatorrek

The Sonatorrek ( " sons - loss " ) is a lament that the Icelandic Skald Egill Skallagrímsson has written to 960 of mourning for the loss of his sons fallen in battle. The song is inserted into the prose text of chapter 81 of Egils saga Skallagrímssonar. The lament has 25 verses in the verses of the Kviðuháttr.
