Songs in A Minor (German: "Songs in A Minor " ) is the debut album by American R & B singer Alicia Keys. It was released on June 5 in the U.S. and in Europe on 3 September 2001 under J Records. At the ceremony of the Grammy Awards in 2002, the album was honored with five Grammy Awards.

The style of the album is a mixture of different styles. These include the use of the Motown - style, therefore the piano, the string arrangements and the choir inserts, combined with modern R & B. The influence of Clive Davis, who discovered Alicia Keys, according to Rolling Stone can be heard on the album.

  • The video for Fallin ', in which Chris Robinson directed, Alicia Keys shows in various situations in which she sings the song and partly to play piano. So you can see them in the intro at a piano in an apartment play, then she sings on the street. A continuous plot line is to visit a prison. Here, the journey by bus, as well as the arrival of a conversation are shown with a prisoner. For this album, the four singles Fallin ', A Woman's Worth, How Come You Do not Call Me and Girlfriend were released. Their debut single Fallin was the most successful from the album, it reached # 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 for six weeks.

Their fourth single Girlfriend was only released in parts of Europe, Canada and Australia. In the U.S., they did not appear.

Success

The album Songs in A Minor was 52 weeks in the German and 67 weeks in the Swiss charts. In Germany it was sold 300,000 times and gained so platinum. Worldwide, the sales figures were so far to more than 10 million units, more than 6 million copies, the album was sold in the U.S. and distinguished by 6 times platinum.

Alicia Keys won with the single Fallin ' from this album Grammy in the categories Song of the Year, Best female R & B vocal performance and best R & B song.
