Songs Of Green Pheasant

Songs Of Green Pheasant is the solo project of the British teacher and musician Duncan Sumpner ( born 1975) from Oughtibridge in Sheffield.

History

2002 Duncan sent Sumpner the label FatCat Records, was on at this time also Sigur Rós under contract, a demo with songs that he recorded in his kitchen with a simple four-track machine. In FatCat one was excited about the music, but could not inform you, as this had forgotten to specify a sender address Sumpner. The label began a two- year-old detective work to come into contact with Sumpner. As FatCat offered him a recording contract, Sumpner reacted surprised, because he had recorded the songs more fun and the thing would be forgotten, as no response from FatCat had come. He first proposed, once again professionally record the songs in a studio, but FatCat insisted to publish the demos in its raw quality, just as it would make the charm of music. The recordings were only entknistert something and released in 2005 as the self-titled debut album Songs Of Green Pheasant. The EP Aerial Days (2006) took Sumpner again in his kitchen on, but this time with an eight -track machine.

During the recordings to Gyllyng Street ( 2007) Sumpner grabbed back stronger than before on external musicians, so that Songs Of Green Pheasant band got more character.

Music

The root of Songs Of Green Pheasant is melancholic, the music consists mainly of acoustic guitars and Sumpners voice that is often backed by Hall. Occasionally used Sumpner a drum machine as well as subtle electronic effects. The sound of the band has often been compared with the darker works of Simon and Garfunkel or Talk Talk and Mark Hollis, as well as with Butterfly Child, Flying Saucer Attack, Jewelled Antler Collective, Richard Young or Galaxy 500 is also a proximity to the post-rock ( Explosions In The Sky ) is audible.
